"Cowgirl Valentine" Necklace Design Instructions

wpe7.jpg (17276 bytes)

This kit includes: 2-12mm Dalmatian Jasper hearts; 3-13x7mm Dalmatian Jasper diamonds; 8-5mm Dalmatian Jasper rounds; 2-7mm Dalmatian Jasper tubes; 6-6mm black opaque Czech crystals; and 1-8mm black Czech crystal. You also have 8-6mm Goldstone stars, 2-11x5mm Goldstone tubes, a portion of brown seeds and a strand of small creamy seed beads.  This is a "double loop" design. It's really not as complicated as it looks.

Instructions:

To make the design that I've started, follow these instructions:

I recommend using a beading needle and a double strand of Nymo. Do NOT use fishing line, it will not make the loops correctly. Regular beading thread will work, but it breaks easily.

I use a flocked beading board to lay out my design and keep the beads from rolling all over. I also find that it helps to leave the creamy seeds strung and only pick up what you need with the needle as you are stringing. Be sure to tie a knot in the other end, or secure with tape, or you'll end up with beads all over!

The center piece that I've created is about 8" long. You need to decide how long the necklace will be, and divide this in half to know how much to string before you start the center piece. For example, if you want to make an 18" necklace, subtract the 8" for the centerpiece, and divide the remainder (10") in half, which means you will have to string approximately 5" before beginning the centerpiece. I'd suggest something like 10 creamy seeds, 1 brown seed, etc.

When you get ready to string the centerpiece, string one brown seed, five creamy seeds, 1 brown seed, 1 jasper diamond, 1 brown seed, 5 creamy, 1 brown, 1 Jasper round, I small Czech crystal, 1 Jasper round, I brown seed, and 5 creamy seeds. Now you are ready to string the first heart drop.

String another brown seed, then a gold star, a brown seed, a Jasper heart, a brown seed, a gold star, a brown seed, and then looping around, come back thru the gold star, seed, heart, seed, star, and first brown seed. Pull the thread so none is showing, but don't pull so hard that the dangle doesn't hang properly. Now you are ready to continue stringing the necklace.

String five creamy seeds, 1 brown, 1 Jasper round, I small Czech crystal, 1 Jasper round, I brown seed, and 5 creamy seeds. Now you are ready to string the double loop centerpiece.

You start by stringing the first sequence, following the RED arrow (see pic below). String one brown seed, one star, one brown, a Jasper diamond, one brown, one star, and one brown seed bead. So far, this is strung like a regular necklace. But now you are going to start on the first loop, halfway thru that you start on the second loop in the opposite direction, finish that loop, complete the FIRST loop, and then you'll go back thru this part of the strand a second time.
wpeD.jpg (8544 bytes) Following the second red arrow, string 10 creamy seed beads, one brown, a Jasper tube, another brown seed and the large Czech crystal, then a brown seed. We've completed 1/2 of the first loop. Now we're going in the opposite direction according to the third red arrow. String 10 creamy seeds, 1 brown, 1 goldstone tube, 1 brown seed, and 1 creamy seed. Loop around the creamy seed, and go back thru the brown seed, the goldstone tube and the brown seed. Now you are following the green line! String 10 creamy seeds and go back thru the brown seed beside the large czech crystal, the crystal, and the other brown seed. Now you've completed the second loop! Be sure to pull up the slack as you go.

Following the green arrow, string a Jasper tube, a brown seed, and 10 creamy seeds. Now you are back at the first sequence. String back thru the brown seed, star, seed, diamond, seed, star, and last brown seed. Now you've completed the first loop, and are ready to continue stringing the necklace.

Now you've finished the second heart dangle! You're almost done!

String five creamy seeds, 1 brown, 1 Jasper round, I small Czech crystal, 1 Jasper round, I brown seed, and 5 creamy seeds. Then string string one brown seed, 1 jasper diamond, 1 brown seed, 5 creamy, 1 brown. Now continue stringing whatever sequence you desire (our example was 10 creamy and 1 brown seed for 5") until the necklace has reached the desired length. Finish with whatever clasp you desire. You're done! :)
